About the Position
Hapamp Elmvale Limited is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for underground electrical utility installation and civil construction projects.
The Estimator will review tender documents, construction drawings, specifications, and project requirements to determine labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs. This position works closely with management, project coordinators, field supervisors, suppliers, and subcontractors to support successful tender submissions and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tender packages, construction drawings, engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Perform quantity take-offs and calculate labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for underground electrical utility installation and civil construction projects.
- Estimate costs for excavation, trenching, conduit installation, duct banks, transformer installations, vaults, manholes, concrete work, backfilling, and restoration.
- Obtain and review supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Identify project risks, site constraints, scope discrepancies, and potential cost impacts.
- Conduct site visits as required to assess project conditions and installation requirements.
- Prepare accurate and competitive tender submissions within established deadlines.
- Document estimating assumptions, exclusions, qualifications, and pricing details.
- Coordinate with project management and field personnel to confirm project scope, labour, equipment, and scheduling requirements.
- Assist with project budgeting, change order pricing, and comparisons of estimated versus actual costs.
- Consider applicable health and safety requirements, utility locates, permits, traffic control, and client specifications when preparing estimates.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in estimating or construction within the electrical utility, underground utility, or civil construction industry.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, specifications, and tender documents.
- Knowledge of underground electrical infrastructure and installation methods.
- Experience with construction quantity take-offs, cost calculations, and supplier quotations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and applicable estimating software.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tender deadlines.
- A commitment to workplace safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork.
