Position Title
Estimating/Quantity Control/ Project Manager
Reports to
Senior Estimator/Superintendent
Duties Under Estimator
• Review with management regarding tender opportunities and prioritizing these opportunities
• Prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications and related
documents
• Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor
estimates (quantity take off)
• Note discrepancies in the tender information and bring to the attention of management for
discussion on how to deal with the discrepancy
• Present prepared quote to management including the quantity take off information
• Liaison with the Contract Manager/Site Superintendent regarding important details relating to
the tender and how it was quoted
• Consult with the Site Super/Foreman during the tender stage
• Maintain a continuous flow of information back and forth between the site and office
• Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to
discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
• Confer with contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
during the project life
• Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors
• Provide the administration department a breakdown of a successful tender so administration
can track actual to budget during the project life
• Track changes and site instructions and prepare reports for management that detail the status
of all change orders during the project life
• Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
• Establish and maintain tendering process, and participate in negotiations
• Establish standard hour and related cost data to effect cost reduction
• Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources
• Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining
them overtime
• Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems
and bring to the attention of management for discussion
• Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work
• Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members
• Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and
detecting changes in circumstances or events
• Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to estimate, enter
data, or process information
• Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
• Perlorming day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing
paperwork
• Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or
assess problems
• Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about
how the project was estimated
• Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic
form
• Providing guidance and expert advice to management and site on technical, systems-, or
process-related topics
• Meet in the field with the Site Inspector to confirm installed quantities to expedite the Payment
Certificate process.
• Preconstruction survey with inspection & photographs of site
Working Conditions
• Commence work at 8:00am
• Day finishes when work schedule for that day has been completed or 4pm, whichever is later
• Required to keep any company vehicle clean, free of damage and organized
