Canada-Ontario Job Grant
The Canada-Ontario Job Grant provides an opportunity for employers to invest in their workforce with help from the government. The job grant will provide direct financial support to individual employers who wish to purchase training for their employees. It will be available to small, medium and large business with a plan to deliver short-term training to existing and new employees. This grant:
- Provides up to $10,000 in government support per person for training costs.
- Requires employers to contribute one-third of total costs. There will be additional flexibility for small businesses to provide an in-kind contribution towards their share of the costs.
- Requires training to be delivered by an eligible, third-party trainer.

The Jordan Abercrombie Memorial Bursary Award
The Barrie Construction Association is pleased to award a $1000 bursary to student(s) enrolled in a post-secondary institution or construction trade apprenticeship. This bursary will be presented to student(s) who graduated or is graduating with a minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent and has demonstrated a combination of academic and trade merit and has a financial need.
The student must be enrolled in a construction apprenticeship program, construction technology, construction engineering (degree) or any other construction-related post-secondary program. The selected applicant must provide proof of enrollment in a post-secondary program or trades program in order to receive the scholarship funds. The applicant must be a resident of Ontario and Canadian Citizens or provide proof of landed immigrant status. The recipient will be chosen prior to our Annual General Meeting, held each year in February.

Women in Construction Group Bursary
Are you a female pursuing a career in the skilled trades?
The Barrie Women in Construction group is excited to
offer our annual bursary to female students entering into Post Secondary or continuing education and Apprenticeships with a focus on skilled trades.

Young Leaders Group Bursary
The Young Leaders Group (YLG) provides a space to engage, connect, and build leaders for their future in the industrial, commercial, and institutional construction industry. The YLG is a space to promote leadership and career opportunities within the industry, encourage young leaders to have a voice and a seat at the table, and network with other members. Our members include Owners, Architects and Engineers, Contractors and Subcontractors, Suppliers, Administrative, Government Agencies, and Students/Apprentices.
As part of their commitment to promote skilled trades to the next generation, the YLG along with the Barrie Construction Association and industry partners are pleased to offer a bursary to anyone focusing on the trades through post-secondary education, apprenticeships, or other means; this bursary is open to those entering or continuing their education.
The applicant(s) must be between the ages of 16 and 26 and residents of Simcoe County or provide proof of landed immigrant status.

Jack Wallwin Memorial Bursary Award
Wallwin Electric Services Ltd. is pleased to award a $1000 bursary to a student enrolled in a post-secondary institution or construction trade apprenticeship.
This bursary will be presented to a student who has graduated or is graduating with a minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent and has demonstrated a combination of academic and trade merit and have a financial need.
The student must be enrolled in a construction apprenticeship program, construction technology, construction engineering (degree) or any other construction related post- secondary program.
The applicant(s) must be residents of Ontario and Canadian Citizens or provide proof of landed immigrant status. Awards are granted in December of each year. Click here for the application
Georgian College Gold Seal Program – Part Time Studies
The Gold Seal program is a national certification program for individuals in the construction industry. It signifies you have attained a nationally recognized level of experience and competence. It is a declaration of skill and competence that is recognized by the construction industry across the country and enhances mobility and professional development for individuals in the field.
These courses would be of interest to construction site supervisors and foremen, or those aspiring to these positions and other construction industry professionals. Learn more here.
