Senior ICI Construction Project Manager Position Available

We are looking for an experienced ICI Construction Project Manager to oversee a wide range of projects from start to finish. Projects could range from various Government Institutions, including municipal Government, Military Facilities, Hospitals, Penitentiaries. The Project Manager must be able to obtain the necessary security clearance for site access. Travel across Ontario will be required with expenses paid.

Experience Required:

– Managing ICI Construction projects with values from $500,000 to over $10,000,000
-Minimum five to ten years in the role of Project Coordinator and/or Project Manager
-Must have the ability to adapt & learn in changing environment
-Extensive knowledge in construction methodologies & procedures
-Able to coordinate different disciplines & be a team player
-Managing several individual projects in various stages of construction from time of award, deficiency, warranty completion & closeout
-Strategic planning including conflict resolution, risk management & change management
-Leadership skills a must, be able to provide guidance, clear instruction & motivation

Responsibilities:

-Strictly adhere to project specification requirements while ensuring the project is completed on time & in an efficient manner and with maximum profitability
-Organize & oversee all construction procedures in conjunction with the Site Superintendent & Senior Management
-Obtain permits and licenses from appropriate building authorities
-Control needed resources (manpower, equipment, materials) from start to finish while following budgetary limitations & opportunities
-Participate in meetings with clients, consultant & sub-trade contractors
-Support & direct the entire project team including Site Superintendent Project Coordinator, workforce, trade contractors, suppliers etc.
-Creating & managing project schedule to ensure project milestones are met & timely completion of project

Senior ICI Estimator, Quantity Surveyor Position Available

As part of our estimating team, you will have 5-10 years estimating experience and will be responsible for evaluating and completing full cost estimates within the ICI sector ranging upward to 10M. Continually communication with prospective project subtrades and suppliers leading up to the tender closings will allow for a collaborative effort with Senior Management for a successful closing. Post tender efforts will include procuring all subtrades and working with our project management division to assure a smooth project start through to completion. Knowledge of Canadian and Provincial building practices required. Experience working at the site level would be a definite asset.

Job Description:
o Complete knowledge of construction methodologies and practices relating to all divisions to allow for efficient performance at all stages of an estimate. Civil, mechanical, electrical knowledge an asset.
o Evaluate and comprehend project specifications, drawings and addendums. Have a full understanding of CCDC 2 and relating documentation. You will assemble, analyze and maintain accurate quantities from plans and specification. You will have superior analytical skills for complete take-offs, the ability to identify and assess risk, knowledge of Industry standards, construction materials and local building codes. An ability to work to tight deadlines and multi-task all with integrity and a sense of responsibility are a must.
o Knowledge and prior successful use of MS Office, MS Project, CAD and Plan Swift required.
o Transmit addenda, spec and drawings to subcontractors and suppliers. Solicit proper coverage from subtrades and suppliers while analyzing that pricing for tender closings. You will have strong written and oral skills to communicate and coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, project management, site superintendents and other project team members to resolve or discuss matters during planning, development, negotiation and contract execution.
o Being self-motivated, creative and resourceful to better relationships and pricing through existing and future new subcontractors will form part of your day-to-day efforts. You will be required to work independently and in a professional manner. Through effective management skills, you might mentor junior estimators and other estimating staff from time to time.

 Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) is seeking an individual with a passion for healthcare
planning, a high level of technical standards and a commitment to excellence to work with our Capital
Planning and Redevelopment team. Reporting to the Manager of Capital Planning and Redevelopment,
as a Planning Lead you will bring a wealth of experience to the table and work directly with clinical
stakeholders and hospital leadership to shape how projects are designed and built.

As a Planning Lead, you will:
 Lead multiple projects simultaneously, requiring leadership, efficient planning and prioritization skills
from the early planning phases through design to construction and occupancy. These projects include
Ontario Ministry of Health (MOH) funded Capital Projects, “Own Funds” capital projects and other large
equipment replacements and renovations.
 Facilitate outside professionals, contractors, and trades applying processes and critical thinking to
ensure risks to the building and operations are mitigated and project objectives are delivered on-time
and on-budget according to define scope, timeline and cost parameters.
 Plan, schedule, and control all design and construction activities toward these objectives, applying
technical skills and judgement on design and construction, while building positive professional

Education:
 An accredited degree or diploma specific to Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or Project
Management (College or University level)

Experience:

Revisiting the “multiple contracts per improvement” approach

By way of the Construction Lien Act Amendment Act, 2017, the name of Ontario’s Construction Lien Act was changed to the Construction Act1, lien expiry triggers and time-frames were changed, holdback provisions were significantly altered and sweeping new prompt payment and adjudication provisions were introduced. The changes are still being implemented over time, based on the “transition provisions” set out at s.87.3 of the Act. These provisions are tied, in part, to when the owner first procures or enters into a contract for the improvement. Unfortunately, the transition provisions gave rise to confusion and debate, particularly over whether “improvement” should be interpreted to involve, potentially, more than a single contract. 2

The Corporation of the City of Orillia has an opening for the full-time position of Project Manager in the Infrastructure Capital Projects Division of the Development Services and Engineering Department.

DUTIES

  • Prepare plans and tender documents for capital infrastructure projects, including the design of roads, sewers (sanitary and storm), and watermains.
  • Review and analyze received bids, and prepare detailed reports for Council.
  • Manage capital infrastructure construction projects, reviewing all tender documents, approving contractor payments (including change orders), and preparing and monitoring project budgets.
  • Select, train, and motivate personnel, coordinate staff training, evaluate employee performance, and work with employees address deficiencies. Ensure staff are properly trained and that safe work conditions and practices are followed.
  • Provide supervision and leadership in construction administration and inspection to field employees.
  • Review and analyze proposed construction changes and make field decisions regarding construction issues.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, municipalities and utilities regarding development and construction of capital infrastructure projects.
  • Resolve construction claims and complaints from contractors, and the public.
  • Price, recommend, and supervise consultants for work on City projects.
  • Review, analyze and evaluate tender documents and plans prepared by consultants as well as authorize approval of submitted invoices.
  • Prepare and administer detailed cost estimates as well as capital budgets for various infrastructure projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of post-secondary education in related field with an OACETT, Professional Engineer or C.E.T. designation.
  • PMP designation would be an asset.
  • Minimum four years’ experience in project management, design and construction of municipal infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal standards, guidelines, legislation and agencies.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and project management supervisory, communication, report and budgeting skills as well as the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Excellent computer skills using MS Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, Questica.
  • AutoCAD skills would be an asset.
  • Possess a valid class ‘G’ Ontario’s driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check is required for this position at the incumbent’s expense, prior to the commencement date.
